Professor: You can’t answer, can you ? Let’s start again, young fella. Is GOD good?

Student : Yes.

Professor: Is satan good ?

Professor: Where does satan come from ?

Student : From … GOD …

Professor: That’s right. Tell me son, is there evil in this world?

Student : Yes.

Professor: Evil is everywhere, isn’t it ? And GOD did make everything. Correct?

Professor: So who created evil ?

(Student did not answer.)

Professor: Is there sickness? Immorality? Hatred? Ugliness? All these terrible things exist in the world, don’t they?

Student : Yes, sir.

Professor: So, who created them ?

(Student had no answer.)

Professor: Science says you have 5 Senses you use to identify and observe the world around you. Tell me, son, have you ever seen GOD?

Student : No, sir.

Professor: Tell us if you have ever heard your GOD?

Student : No , sir.

Professor: Have you ever felt your GOD, tasted your GOD, smell your GOD? Have you ever had any sensory perception of GOD for that matter?

Student : No, sir. I’m afraid I haven’t.

Professor: Yet you still believe in Him?

Student : Yes.

Professor : According to Empirical, Testable, Demonstrable Protocol, Science says your GOD doesn’t exist. What do you say to that, son?

Student : Nothing. I only have my faith.

Professor: Yes, faith. And that is the problem Science has.

Student : Professor, is there such a thing as heat?

Professor: Yes.

Student : And is there such a thing as cold?

Professor: Yes.

Student : No, sir. There isn’t.

(The lecture theatre became very quiet with this turn of events.)

Student : Sir, you can have lots of heat, even more heat, superheat, mega heat, white heat, a little heat or no heat. But we don’t have anything called cold. We can hit 458 degrees below zero which is no heat, but we can’t go any further after that. There is no such thing as cold. Cold is only a word we use to describe the absence of heat. We cannot measure cold. Heat is energy. Cold is not the opposite of heat, sir, just the absence of it.

(There was pin-drop silence in the lecture theater.)

Student : What about darkness, Professor? Is there such a thing as darkness?

Professor: Yes. What is night if there isn’t darkness?

Student : You’re wrong again, sir. Darkness is the absence of something. You can have low light, normal light, bright light, flashing light. But if you have no light constantly, you have nothing and its called darkness, isn’t it? In reality, darkness isn’t. If it is, were you would be able to make darkness darker, wouldn’t you?

Professor: So what is the point you are making, young man ?

Student : Sir, my point is your philosophical premise is flawed.

Professor: Flawed ? Can you explain how?

Student : Sir, you are working on the premise of duality. You argue there is life and then there is death, a good GOD and a bad GOD. You are viewing the concept of GOD as something finite, something we can measure. Sir, Science can’t even explain a thought. It uses electricity and magnetism, but has never seen, much less fully understood either one. To view death as the opposite of life is to be ignorant of the fact that death cannot exist as a substantive thing.

Death is not the opposite of life: just the absence of it. Now tell me, Professor, do you teach your students that they evolved from a monkey?

Professor: If you are referring to the natural evolutionary process, yes, of course, I do.

Student : Have you ever observed evolution with your own eyes, sir?

(The Professor shook his head with a smile, beginning to realize where the argument was going.)

Student : Since no one has ever observed the process of evolution at work and cannot even prove that this process is an on-going endeavor. Are you not teaching your opinion, sir? Are you not a scientist but a preacher?

(The class was in uproar.)

Student : Is there anyone in the class who has ever seen the Professor’s brain?

(The class broke out into laughter. )

Student : Is there anyone here who has ever heard the Professor’s brain, felt it, touched or smelt it? No one appears to have done so. So, according to the established Rules of Empirical, Stable, Demonstrable Protocol, Science says that you have no brain, sir. With all due respect, sir, how do we then trust your lectures, sir?

(The room was silent. The Professor stared at the student, his face unfathomable.)

Professor: I guess you’ll have to take them on faith, son.

Student : That is it sir … Exactly ! The link between man & GOD is FAITH. That is all that keeps things alive and moving.

It has been a very memorable journey.
Thanks to all the teachers and students there. especially Mrs. Ng!
There may have some unhappy parts during this 10-week.
But all of them are overcomed by the other happy things.

Week 4 of internship.

Admin. Procurement. Purchases. = Headache.
And after I tried to work out the checklist, Sara told me this is not what she want! She told me to try again. Headache!

Remedial lessons with seok bin.
Pri 6 girl. But she doesn't know what is even or odd number. She doesn't know how to spell twelve. When I asked her july is which month. She doesn't know. She doesn't know that 1 hour is 60 minutes, and I have to emphasize again and again!
What to say? I have to be fierce to her. But somehow I don't bear to be too fierce to her. She is such a poor girl. Maybe as what Mrs Ng said, somehow it's good that she is still not mature in her thinking. At least she is smiling and laughing. When I was having my lunch, she just sat there and looked at me eating. I started to wonder if she is envious or not.

6B study camp

I had a wonderful 3-day study camp with class 6B! (:
Although I still do not remember the names of all the students.
They are fun, smart, and..... noisy!
All the best to their PSLE! Hope they can get an aggregate score of at least 240!

oh ya! Ernest also joined the class for the study camp!
He is only a primary 3 boy! He's super cute!
He sat together with a group at the table and did the science mindmap with them!
Today, he even ended up doing pri6 science worksheet with them!
He is simply copying the answers lor! Haha!

Anyway, I have been a SKW for the past 2 weeks! What internship it is!
But I enjoyed it so far! All thanks to these lovely teachers! (:

day4 of internship:

Mrs Evelyn Lee was not around, so I was supposed to help her with the classes. But, there was nothing for me to teach, since all Pri 6 students were involved in the Adam Khoo's Motivation camp! So, my job? Just to make sure the class behaved during the camp. And, I was simply attending the camp! Was I motivated? Probably, yes. (: Haha I was PAID to attend the camp, when the school actually paid to get the coaches to come and conduct the camp!

day5 of internship:

Did 2 periods of relief teaching. And, in this 2 periods, I only managed to settle the filing matters with the class! After that, since I had no other relief lessons, Mr Lim asked me to join the class for PE lesson! Guess what? I ended up playing badminton with the Pri 5 girls! (: But I forgot to take a photo of it, to keep as memory!
Anyway, my work during june holiday looks better now. Initially, I thought I will only be doing admin work during that 4-week vacation! But it seems like I will be helping one of the maths teachers! (: Hopefully, it will be that good for the whole 4-week vacation!

Term 2 ends today. I kindof feel sad, for not being unable to see those Pri1-5 kids for the next 4 weeks! It is only one week with Riverlites(students in RVPS), and I'm missing them already! What's wrong with me?

2ND DAY of internship!

I suppose today is better than yesterday? Ha ha.

Anyway, today we are given a timetable of when and where are we going for observation etc. At least I don't go to any class without any plan. We also attended a Nutrition workshop, which is actually meant for parents! Ha ha!

And, my first ever relief-teaching experience! Omo~
I realize that I really have to be FIRM, or else they will bully me. :(
They were running around the classroom, playing with each other, totally ignoring me!
It was only until I decide to be FIERCE, then they started to sit at their own seats, watching the storytelling video!
and, that's not over yet! I was supposed to bring them down to the canteen to dismiss them. But by the time I reached the canteen, I don't know where is the class! Arrrrr!

Anyway, after my lunch, Mdm Chew asked me to go AVA room to watch the students practising for their performance for their Hangzhou's trip, since I have nothing to do in the staff room! The students are so cute, singing and dancing. Ha ha!

Hope things will get better and better. (: Aja!

Come to think...

I should think positively!

Since I have chosen this internship, I shouldn't look back and keep regretting my decision of choosing CSIT then. I shouldn't regret about not choosing this or that company.

I should stand by my decision! The colleagues seem nice SO FAR. There is a vegetarian stall in the canteen and the mall opposite the school!

If I really want to be happy there, I shouldn't make myself unhappy! Just like what the principal says when I shake his hand on the stage, "Hope you enjoy yourself here. " So, I should try to enjoy myself as much as possible!

first day in RPS

First day of my internship in Rivervale Primary.

What to talk about?

The principal introduced 4 NIE just-graduated teachers and me, the intern during assembly! We were supposed to go up to the stage and shake his hand. Ha ha!

After that, since there is no plan for me at all (SIAN >.< ), I accompanied Nicole to class 5I to sit in for the lessons. After that I went to class 4E too. After recess, back to class 5I. So I simply spent the whole morning sitting in the classrooms, listening to their lessons. *YAWNS* okay, I'm supposed to observe how the teacher teaches!

After lunch, I just sat in the staff room and..... read my own storybook! How slack I am! But, I don't like this! Internship is meant for us to gain experience and learn! And, I hope I have something to do, so that I deserve the pay! Oh talking about it, when I told 2 teachers that if they need any help, just let me know, they immediately told me not to say such a thing, or else.....! Ha ha! But I still hope so. =P

Hope the days will get better soon! And I want to learn, learn, learn! I don't want to sit there doing nothing!

let me look back on my new year resolutions for 2010 and see how much have I accomplished.

- good health (from what I see at the end of this sem, my health is not good. Maybe it's wrong to stay up until 4-5am to study!)
- to exercise more! and slim down! (oh no! Instead I have gained around 2kg since the start of 2010!)
- to maintain/improve my CGPA, or in other words, score well for my modules! (Oh no again! My gpa have dropped instead!)
- to be able to return to Accenture to work during school vacation! (I didn't manage to return to Accenture. Anyway I have let go of the idea. Let nature take its course. And, I managed to get a job in SPH. )
- to be a better person, in all aspects. (ok this is too general i think. Hope I have become a better person in some aspects)
- to be able to contribute more to the community (?? haha i dunno)
- to be able to liaoyuan more in fotang. (Did I? Hope I did.)
- to learn more about our DAO! (Did I? haix)

year3 semester 1

hey! it has been..... 1 month ++++ since I last blogged.

Just ended my exam 2 days ago. This semester, because of YOG, our exam is until end of DEC! Okay, let me summarise.

This semester, I would say, it starts well and ends really bad.
On my first day of exam, as what I have told my friends, It was an eventful day.
Full of surprises! I would not say what happened that day ((:
But during my exam period, all kinds of illnesses invaded me.
Toothache. Throat ulcer. Fever. I totally cannot concentrate studying for my papers!

ODE. The module that I was most confident in, initially, since I took a CEM module on differential questions back in SP. But, when I didn't do as well as I expected, I begin to lose confidence. And for the final exam, because I was having a fever the night before, I didn't manage to study much. I was quite disappointed with how I did for this module. :(

Crypto. The module that I have interest in! But my confidence level dropped when I slept through MOST of the lectures. But I admitted the midterm exam built up my confidence A LOT. It brought back my interest in this module. As for final exam, it should be the paper that I am most happy with, though I may not score well eventually due to the bell curve.

Real Analysis. The module that I was most busy with. Weekly tutorials and assignments. But all is about proving, and it did manage to drive me crazy sometimes. I don't want to talk about the final exam, since I wasted more than 20 marks that I shouldn't have wasted! :(

Complex analysis. The module that I enjoyed most. All thanks to the handsome and humorous professor! But, probably we are too used to powerpoint notes, tutorials etc. He don't give any notes. He wrote on the whiteboard every lecture. He did give us questions in textbook to try. But he never went though them. Anyway, what killed most of us, is the midterm exam. The freaking 45% for the midterm exam. I heard there are 12 people who got prefect score. But, there are also people who got below 10! As for final exam, it was a bit better than what I expected. But I also didn't do well. But still thanks to elson, for mentioning taylor series! (:

Lastly, my only elective this semester, along with 4 maths cores! Jap 3. My class only has 10 students! Lol. Anyway, it was enjoyable. But it was also tiring. Imagine that I have to stay in school until 7plus every tuesday and friday, for the lessons!

To conclude, the most happiest time of this semester, are spent with my classmates. I don't know if we can still be so bonded again in the future, since we will be taking different modules. I enjoy every moment in class, during lunch, going home together. How we squeeze our handwriting into a card for someone's birthday. How we chip in for someone's birthday present. How we celebrate birthdays together. I will miss every single moment with you guys. I actually miss this semester because of this bunch of classmates! (:

Sorry for the late entry. I was too busy watching YOG competitions! =P

Anyway I worked there for around 7 weeks! Contract supposed to end tomorrow. But I terminated it last Friday because I wanted to have a week break before school starts.

The job is better than what I thought.
GOOD:
- cheryl is there to work with me! (: someone to chat with! (not forgetting tasha, who works with us for 3 days~! hahaa)
- vijay is a nice and kind boss. He does not scold us. (: and he actually allows me to go for my holiday, after only working for 4 days!

Singapore got 2 silver and 5 bronze medals! Well done, Singapore!

After YOG, my another table tennis idol, is the young 15-year old boy, Koki Niwa from Japan! The only player to remain unbeaten throughout the whole tournament~!!!!

Represented by 15 year old Koki Niwa and 16 year Ayuka Tanioka, Japan secured the gold medal in the Team event at the Youth Olympic Games in Singapore on Thursday 26th August 2010.

They beat the Korean partnership of Kim Dong Hyun and Yang Ha Eun in a electrifying contest that brought matters in the table tennis events to an exciting conclusion.

Koki Niwa and Ayuka Tanioka recorded a two matches to one victory over the Korean partnership of Kim Dong Hyun and Yang Ha Eun with every match in the fixture being decided in full five games duels.

The no.1 seeds beat the no.2 seeds to secure the top prize.

Perfect Start for Korea
Yang Ha Eun gave Korea the perfect start by eventually penetrating the defensive skills of Ayuka Tanioka, before Koki Niwa levelled matters by overcoming Kim Dong Hyun.

Closest of All
The win recorded by Koki Niwa meant that a deciding doubles match was needed; as in the two singles matches, the contest went to a nail-biting fifth game and it proved the closest of all three duels.

In an encounter that ebbed and flowed, the Japanese partnership secured victory in the deciding game 11-9; the minimal two point margin was the difference between gold and silver.

Personal Triumph
Meanwhile, for Koki Niwa it was a personal triumph.

Three days earlier he had won the gold medal in the Boys’ Singles event, on the final day of play he added a second.

He left Singapore as unquestionably the player of the tournament, unbeaten in the Boys’ Singles event and unbeaten in the Team event; it was a splendid display from a young man who was under pressure.

Coped with Pressure
In both events he was the top seed, in both events he justified that seeding and most definitely has happy memories of the First Youth Olympic Games.

Unquestionably he has set standards for others to follow; high standards, very high standards indeed. Should the current format be retained his success can only ever be equalled, never beaten.

I ended my temp job last friday.
starting school next week.

what am I doing this week? Watching YOG. LOL.

Especially the table tennis matches. Hope Singapore's mixed team can do well! (:

The nation is expecting very high on the table tennis team and..... darren choy, from sailing team.

By Tuesday, Darren was at the first place. But he did quite badly yesterday, which caused him to drop to 6th place. Today at noon, the last race. Only if he did well AND those who are leading him in the ranking did badly, then it's possible to get a medal. Haix I was quite sad to hear the news. Initially he was the gold medal hope, since he is a world champion. But now, I just hope he can get at least a medal. (: darren fighting~!!

Can you imagine how much YOG has affected me? I had a dream last night. I don't really remember anymore. But I know that it is something to do with YOG. LOL.

Anyway, no matter what, I believe that they has put in their best effort. Jiayou~! (:

Hyeong or hyung (형) and oppa (오빠) both mean "older brother." However, only males can use hyung and only females can use oppa.

The female equivalents are eonni or unni (언니) which is what a female would call her older sister. And nuna (누나) is what a male would call his older sister.

Curiously enough, there is just one word for a younger brother or sister. And that's dongsaeng (동생). And both males and females use that word.

I have tried to apply for a temporary job this vacation. But I failed.

At night, we went to Victoria Harbor and Avenue of Stars! Although we have to walk quite a distance, it was totally worth it! The lights from the Hong Kong Island.... Beautiful.

We have to climb the LONGG stairs to reach the top!

Finally, we are at the top! And it is worth it! Nice scenery~!

From the cable car, we saw the whole Hong Kong International Airport on that piece of reclaimed land.

In the late afternoon, we went to the Central Hong Kong. The REAL Hong Kong Island!

DAY FOUR

Did some last min shopping. Then pack up to go home!

And back from my dream. Back to the real world. Back to Singapore.

Anyway, thanks to my dad for paying such a great sum of money, just to let us go HK for holiday! and my mum for taking care of us!

15th anniversary!

today is a BUSY day because......

today is our FT 15th anniversary! time has really passed so fast. already 15 years old.
but there is no zitang yet! HAIX.

this year we started at 4.30pm. More time to rest before starting. But it also means that we can finish and rest later! And somemore, one more session is required. All the waiting times etc. We only started packing up near 9pm! SO tired!

Anyway, I have already found a job in SPH. But in most aspects, my previous job in BIG is better than this SPH job. Location. Pay. Lunch. Travel expenses. Job scope. Starting work on coming TUES. Hope I will enjoy this job. (:

Few days ago, Vincent posted this maths question to me. He says it was a question from 2002 maths olympiad competition.

He, being very smart, managed to solve it by himself!

Me, being quite stupid, went the wrong way, trying very hard to solve it, and did not manage to solve it, after half an hour. Luckily, with the help of Vincent, I solved it! (:

Below is the maths question. Anyone interested, can try solving. It took less than half a page to solve, if you do it in the right way! (:

W/O using a calculator evaluate (1 + tan 21)(1 + tan 22)(1 + tan 23)(1 + tan 24).

A hint: make use of tan 45 = 1 (: good luck!

the semester results were out this morning, at 12mn!
and I, being super 'kiasu', went to check at 12mn!
and IT IS NOT GOOD!
my LOUSIEST result so far in NTU.
somehow I hope it will be my lousiest result for my whole 4 yrs in NTU!
but i can only blame myself for the lousy result.
I have not been doing my tutorials, after the recess week.

yesterday seemed good. At least hazel made me quite occupied.

yesterday was my 4e4 ANNUAL class gathering at Dhoby Ghaut Green Sakura.
but i had another commitment.

in the end, i decided to go for the gathering first.
then leave early for the 2nd one.
but a bit too early. only stayed there for around 2 hours.
some of them are quite late.

but glad to see my classmates again. (:
some of them, I have not seen them for years...

but I did not take any photo with them.
and I was hoping to see the photos they took on the facebook.

yes finally! this sem is finally over!

ok let me give a overall summary.

mps812. entrep. good experience. especially working a biz plan with 5 guys of different nationalities. =.=" but anyway pass/fail module. but spent quite some time on the biz plan. hope can pass. (:

hw102a. acad writing. spent SUPER lots of time on it, and somehow neglected my maths module. but because of this module, i know vincent, elson and pk. haha! (:

mas313. ABSTRACT algebra. ok not easy module. maybe i over estimate myself by taking this module. but i did not regret taking so far. i have s/u-ed this module. hope can get a S. (:

mas314. first applied core module. the content does not look very difficult. maybe except last chapter. but the lecturer is quite stingay in giving marks. but i screwed up the paper. hope i still can get the grade that i'm okay with. (:

mas212. calculus 4! last calculus module in NTU. more difficult than the previous 3. the paper did not end up as okay as the previous 3 too. haix. hope i still can get the grade i wan. (:

lastly, mps811 defence science. pass/fail. but got chim chim stuff on chemistry, physics and biology. the maths section not easy too. hope can pass. the exam is like just tikam. haha! (:

ok overall, i would say, i'm not as hardworking as last sem. haix.

I went to watch 'AVATAR' with my cousins this afternoon!
I have heard that the movie is really very nice.
But guess what? I fell asleep in the midst of the movie, for 5-10mins?!
Because I don't really understand the movie.
But anyway, I still feel that the movie is quite nice.
The graphics and 3-D effect are great! =D

And, after the movie, we went to fetch our mums and went for dinner together!
Haha they said that it felt like CNY where everyone sit together and eat. =D

Oh ya. I just finished reading the whole synopsis of 'AVATAR'. Kind of, not feeling very good for not being able to understand such a NICE movie.

Humans are never satisfied. It applies to me too, since I'm (of course!) a human too!

Gotten the 2nd B+ for my Maths core since I entered NTU.
Although the grade is good enough, since I did not know how to do ALL the questions during final exam, I still feel not satisfied.

I should try not to have this mentality, or else I will get very sad as the Maths core modules are getting harder and harder and most likely my result will fall.

Nevertheless, the overall result is still very good, to me. At least it is more than what I expect. =D
My GPA is going up and up! Yipee!

I still remembered last year, in early May,
I went to an interview in NTU, before I can get into this course.
There were 2 interviewers.
I remembered, one of the professors joked, why I did not get a distinction for all my 5 CEM modules. HAHA.

Last semester, I happened to crash a tutorial group where I met one of the professors. I guess he did not remember me.

This semester, I am in the tutorial group that the other professor(the one who joked about the distinction) is teaching in. I thought he do not remember me too!
But guess what?
Today I went to his office to ask some questions because there is a mid-term paper today.
The first thing he said is, "Hey! Do you still remember that I interviewed you?"
I was surprised. It has been more than a year since the interview!

And, tomorrow I will be seeing him again. Tutorial.

Anyway, Just in case you are wondering why I have not been blogging,
I have been quite busy with my studies recently.
The modules are getting more and more difficult.
I'm still trying hard to understand the stuffs.
One month plus to semester exam.
I should start studying for the exam.
Looking forward to December. =D

today marks officially one month since I last stepped into the office in DTTB.

probably they have forgotten about me.
maybe the farewell gift that I gave them on my last day of work, is hiding at some corner of their drawer or has already gone missing.
maybe my desk has already been occupied by someone else.

I should have let go.

Just now when I was watching some drama, one of the characters said, it is not necessary to forget about the past. I should just leave it deep in my heart and take it as one of my memories/experiences in life. I should not keep looking back, or I will never progress. =]

I am wondering how are they doing now.

They should be SUPER busy at this time.
They should be trying their very best to make the cutover a success.

Sometimes I think I'm pretty foolish.
Probably they don't remember my name anymore.
Just like how Louis forgot my name after he came back from his 2-week leave.
To them, maybe I was just a small fry who worked there for only two months.
Probably, now there are other new temps who are helping them with the work.

I don't know what is the thing that I can't let go of.
I have been doing very well for the past 2 weeks.
But now, I'm back to this state.

Anyway, jiayou!jiayou!jiayou! for tomorrow's cutover!
The next crucial day will be more than one week later. E-HR GO LIVE! 7 SEP 2009!

3 weeks after my contract with Accenture ended.

I start to miss Accenture again.

Because maybe when I was there working, I did not need to use so many of my brain cells.

Now, only third week of school, I'm feeling very stressed.

Things are getting so complicated and difficult.

I just can't understand!

Especially, when this happens to my MATHS core modules!

How can it be like that?! I don't want!!

I just can't believe that I have to study till 2-3am when it is only the second week of school!

I hope I will have more energy to study and understand those stuffs!

This is only 2nd year! If I can't even handle year 2's stuffs, how can I be able to last till the end of the 4 years!

Good Luck to me.

Anyway, only left 5 days(!!!) to E-HR Cutover!

Tomorrow, public holiday.

On these 3 days, when people are out celebrating, THEY most probably are in their office, working. Haix.

When project deadline is getting closer and closer, they totally have no time to relax. Haix.

I think I should not think too much, regarding the choice that I made last year.

I should just study hard and score well. =)

Maybe with the good results, I can get into a good job.

It may not be in accenture. It can be at any company.

Anyway, yesterday I was thinking, memories are normally very memorable on the first time.

I wonder, if I am able to return to accenture to work again, be it vacation job, internship or perm job after graduation, probably it will not as memorable as this time.

So, why should I make my memories in Accenture, no more memorable?

Anyway, I still want to go back to Accenture to work. =P stupid, right? LOL.
