The Primary School Leaving Examination results were released on Wednesday and this year, neighbourhood schools have produced a bumper crop of top students.
It was a jubilant morning at Seng Kang Primary School.
Not only did the EM1 and EM2 students achieve 100 percent passes for the second year running, this 8-year old neighbourhood school also produced the top scorer for this year's exam.
This is proof that neighbourhood schools are no less capable than their prestigious counterparts.
The top score is 285.
Seng Kang Primary had 12 students who scored 250 and above and 40.3 percent of its students made it to special and express stream.
Lew Lan Chin, Principal, Seng Kang Primary, said: "I've never been disappointed being posted to a neighbourhood school. In fact, I think its my greatest challenge to be able to contribute to the life of people in this community and we are not going to give up in every effort to give them the education that they deserve."
Top boy Foo Xiang Peng, with a score of 285, plans to go to Raffles Institution and says he's not planning to let academic stress get to him.
The 12-year-old said: "When you feel like playing, just go and play. And when you come back, just continue doing your homework."
The top Indian boy is Ashish Xiangyi Kumar from Dazhong Primary.
He scored 278 with straight As plus a distinction in Higher Chinese.
He said: "I love writing really, both in English and in Chinese and I think I wrote quite well in this exam."
Pupils at Raffles Girls' Primary were also elated to receive their results.
The school produced 5 top students including the top Malay student, Lyana Shaffiee who got a score of 280.
Students have till Monday to submit their completed secondary school option forms.
The Secondary One posting results will be released on 22 December 2004.
Pupils are to collect their results through their primary schools on 22 December 2004, and report to their posted secondary schools on 23 December 2004.
